Roman nut game

What can you do to relax and pass the time before the important INVALSI exams? Well, we can have some fun and learn about ancient Roman games! This is what we decided to do with the Fifth Grade at Maria Ausiliatrice School.

First of all, we went on the Lim and while surfing the web, we found out that the Roman boys and girls played simple games together; in fact, they used everyday objects! One of the most popular games was called “The three nuts”. This game consisted in creating a triangle made out of nuts and the children had to throw one of theirs, trying to move the others.

During our P.E. lesson, we played this game in the school playground. The children had an enjoyable time. Why don’t you try this fun game for yourselves?!

What you need…

• 4 nuts
• A place with some space

Place the three nuts in a small triangle. At approx. one and a half metres distance, you can throw your nut – the object of the game is to hit all three nuts thus moving them out of the triangular position.

Cosa si può fare per rilassarsi e passare il tempo prima degli importanti esami INVALSI? Bene, possiamo divertirci e conoscere gli antichi giochi romani! Questo è quello che abbiamo deciso di fare con la Quinta Primaria alla Scuola Maria Ausiliatrice.

Prima di tutto sulla Lim navigando sul web abbiamo scoperto che i ragazzi e le ragazze romane giocavano insieme a giochi semplici; infatti usavano oggetti di uso quotidiano! Uno dei giochi più popolari si chiamava “Le tre noci”. Questo gioco consisteva nel creare un triangolo fatto di noci e i bambini dovevano lanciarne uno, cercando di muovere gli altri.

Durante l’ora di Educazione Motoria, abbiamo giocato a questo gioco nel cortile della scuola. I bambini si sono divertiti molto. Perché non provate anche voi questo divertente gioco?!

• Un posto spazioso

Metti tre noci a terra formando un piccolo triangolo. A circa un metro e mezzo di distanza, puoi lanciare la tua noce: l’obiettivo del gioco è colpire tutti e tre le noci spostandole fuori dalla posizione triangolare.
