Dragging Painting Technique

During Halloween week in our Art CLIL lessons, the 5th-year (S.Spirito Primary School) students explored the dragging painting technique, a method that allows colour to stretch, blur, and transform into unexpected shapes. Using simple tools and a limited palette, the students learned how dragging paint across the page can create depth, contrast, and movement.

As part of the activity, we focused on understanding light and shadow—how they interact and how they can completely change the atmosphere of an image. The students observed how darker tones can suggest mystery, while lighter areas can highlight important details. This guided them in interpreting abstract forms produced by their brushstrokes.

From what initially looked like random smudges of blue, black, and white, the students let their imaginations take the lead. By observing the shapes created through the dragging motion, they identified towers, bridges, windows, and rocky cliffs. Step by step, these subtle silhouettes evolved into fantastical castles with a haunted, dreamlike appearance—perfectly fitting for the Halloween theme.

The activity encouraged creativity, visual interpretation, and artistic confidence. Each student’s work became a unique landscape born from intuition and experimentation, showing how powerful imagination can be when guided by artistic technique.

Tecnica della Pittura Trascinata

Durante la settimana di Halloween, nelle lezioni di Art CLIL, gli studenti della quinta (Primaria S.Spirito) hanno sperimentato la tecnica della pittura trascinata, un metodo che permette al colore di allungarsi, sfumarsi e trasformarsi in forme inaspettate. Utilizzando strumenti semplici e una tavolozza limitata, i ragazzi hanno scoperto come trascinare il colore sul foglio possa creare profondità, contrasti e movimento.

Nel corso dell’attività ci siamo concentrati sulla comprensione della luce e dell’ombra: come interagiscono tra loro e come possono cambiare completamente l’atmosfera di un’immagine. Gli studenti hanno osservato come i toni scuri possano suggerire mistero, mentre le zone più chiare possono mettere in risalto i dettagli importanti. Questo li ha aiutati a interpretare le forme astratte prodotte dai loro pennellate.

Da quelli che inizialmente sembravano semplici macchie di blu, nero e bianco, i ragazzi hanno lasciato spazio alla loro immaginazione. Osservando le forme create dal movimento del trascinamento, hanno riconosciuto torri, ponti, finestre e scogliere. Passo dopo passo, queste sagome abbozzate si sono trasformate in castelli fantastici dall’aspetto spettrale e onirico—perfetti per il tema di Halloween.

L’attività ha stimolato creatività, interpretazione visiva e sicurezza artistica. Ogni lavoro è diventato un paesaggio unico, nato dall’intuizione e dalla sperimentazione, dimostrando quanto l’immaginazione possa essere potente quando è guidata da una tecnica artistica.
